Opening Reception:
Thursday, May 3, 6pm-12am

05.03.18 – 05.06.18

3RD Ethos Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of recent paintings on paper by K. This is the first solo show by the artist in the space. The work is a series made in 2017 inspired by summer’s vibes. K’s UNTITLED will be on view from May 3 to May 6, 2018 at 154 Knickerbocker Ave Brooklyn, NY with an opening party on Thursday, May 3rd from 6pm -11pm.

The exhibition will also present K’s participatory piece Void Simulacrum (VS) at the night of the opening. During VS everyone in the space will be invited to shape a 50-foot spandex band into multiple shapes.

K’s work is characterized by a visceral response to time and place. He explores feelings tied to a season which affect his color use. K began seriously pursuing painting on paper in 2012. During that time the color black played an important role in the structuring of his compositions evoking heavier feelings. The works between 2012 and 2016 are geometrical in nature. Recently he has opened his compositions to lighter feels. Alongside the lightheartedness, the compositions have become more gestural. The works have been composed on the wall and on the floor like a dance in space. The exhibition provides the viewer with an opportunity to look at the works as they breathe in and out the exaltation of summer.

K (b. 1986, Sofia, Bulgaria) works in painting, installation and performance. He completed a BFA at Pratt Institute, Brooklyn in 2009. K works and lives in BK.
